It’s Time To Shop With Your Heart

ASPCA Shop With Your Heart

We are a meat-eating family. Although I could probably go the rest of my life without meat – the rest of my family tends to disagree. We are very conscientious about where the meat we buy comes from. You pretty much have to be today with all of the garbage that is put in our food. Not only that – but where your meat is raised is a BIG deal. Our first choice is always to have a full cow or pig butchered from a local farmer.

But when that isn’t a choice we try and find welfare-certified meat. There are 6 of them here locally (in Northwest Arkansas and outside areas) and if you have not checked them out – you absolutely should.

  • Bansley’s Berkshire Ridge Harrison, AR (AWA Beef, Pork)
  • Crescent Creek Farm Perry, AR (AWA Pork)
  • Eagle Point Farms, LLC Rogers, AR (AWA Pork)
  • Farm Girl Natural Foods Perryville, AR (AWA Beef, Eggs, Pork)
  • Granny Creek Farm Lamar, AR (AWA Eggs)
  • M&M Farms Rudy, AR (AWA Beef)

As you may already know, most of the nearly 9 billion animals raised for meat, milk, and eggs in the US are suffering in inhumane factory farms. And animals are not the only affected, as factory farms impact human health—they can be breeding grounds for dangerous pathogens and the antibiotics used to prevent disease create the potential for dangerous, drug-resistant bacteria to develop.

I mean seriously, I challenge you to google inhumane factory farms – check out the images. Did you know that is where your meat was coming from? Next time you sit down to that juicy piece of chicken or steak, or bit into that hamburger, I hope you remember this article. I hope you think about where your meat came from!

WILL YOU MAKE THE PLEDGE?

Make the pledge to be a more welfare-conscious shopper: aspca.org/shopwithyourheart. Everyone who signs the pledge also gains access to an exclusive Shop With Your Heart Grocery List, including welfare-certified and widely available plant-based brands.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

To fully harness the power of our collective purchases and demand better lives for farm animals, the Shop With Your Heart initiative gives consumers the resources to recognize, locate and demand meaningfully welfare-certified meat, eggs, and dairy products as well as plant-based alternatives.

We only purchase meat and eggs that are humanely raised, majority from our local farmer’s where I can ask questions and support my local community/small businesses!

Loved that video! It really is something I think about when I buy my meat. Honestly, I buy humane meat, eggs, and dairy from a local farmer when the budget allows, but when things are tight I reach for the less expensive options. I am looking forward to a day when I can purchase only humane meats!

We are the same way Marthalynn. We are very lucky in that we have relatives that have cattle. Usually, we can split a butcher with them. But sometimes money just doesn’t allow it. But I am SO grossed out when I have to buy meat from the grocery store 🙁
