You may have already started your shopping, or even be completely done. But for those of you who are like me and wait until now – or the very last minute – here are some fun gift ideas for teens.
Even thought my kids have been “teens” for several years, I still find myself constantly in disbelief that I have teenagers. Or that they are even that old. I think in my head they are mostly still 8 years old. Just 8 year olds that drive themselves to school, and sports, and make me coffee and sometimes breakfast.
With each year that they get older, I find myself struggling more and more during the holidays. I do not have the mom guilt where there needs to be presents flowing out into the middle of the living room on Christmas morning. That isn’t why we celebrate the holiday. But it is a nostalgic thing. To wake up in the morning knowing that there is a surprise under the tree and in the stocking. Something other than money or a gift card.
Both of my kids are teens, one 15 and one 16, a boy and a girl. So shopping for 2 completely different personalities AND boy/girl things can be challenging and expensive in some cases. Here is a list of things that my husband and I came up with to help anyone else out who might be stressed to find smaller fun things beyond the cell phone, laptop and other big Christmas items that are always at the top of the list.
Both of my kids have the Beats Solo and love them. They wear them constantly and after a year, have yet to wear them out. So they definitely stand up to good use. They give big clean sound that is crystal clear. And if you have the right wire connector, they can be used like a headset for calls also.
The Big Joe Bean Bag Chair chair is on our list this year. I have heard such great things about it. I think our biggest use will be in our living room when we do movie nights or when the kids have friends over. They are super comfy and not your average bean bag chair.
This is DIY Smartphone Mobile Phone Projector is probably one of my favorites (probably because I am a nerd). But how fun would it be to cast your phone screen onto the wall or ceiling? I am not expecting this to be a super great quality projector, but for a teenager hanging in their room or with friends, I think this will be a ton of fun!
I have heard in recent months that coloringcan be very de-stressing, even for teens and adults! My son is very artistic and could probably draw these things himself – but my daughter and I enjoy sitting down to a warm cup of hot chocolate and coloring! Who knew? This is another one that is definitely on our list this year.
So of course, the next thing after a fun coloring book HAS to be Gel Pens! Have you ever colored with gel pens? So much fun! I mean, we use your average crayons too. But gel pens glide and color so fluidly. Definitely a must have. My daughter is a doodler too, so picking whatever color you are in the mood for is fun too!
Makey Makey – An Invention Kit for Everyone This has to be one of the neatest nerdy things EVER. My son wants to be an engineer and I think something like this would be a ton of fun to play around with. Basically, anything you hook it up to becomes something electronic. So, hook the leads up to carrots and celery and make them into piano keys! How super nerdy cool is that??

Soundsoul Music Fountain Dancing Water Speakers So I think even I would love to have a pair of these. I can just picture them sitting on my desk, playing music and dancing while I am trying to work – and then I get completely distracted and mesmerized by the colorful dancing. These are definitely on our list this year, I think the kids will love them!
These Touch screen gloves are on our list every year. Great for the entire family really. There is nothing more irritating than having to pull of your gloves to use your phone and have frozen hands! My kids especially like The North Face
gloves.
Apparently these little boardsare super popular. I have seen them called Segway, Airboard, Hover Board, etc… They are a little pricey, but many of my sons friends have them and love them. My son has been BEGGING for one!
Ollie for Android and iOS App Controlled Robot Another fun little electronic gadget to put on the list. This little thing is a robot that is controlled by an app on your phone! How fun is that?
What could be more fun than hearing your kids belt out the tunes from the shower? Both of my kids have one of these bluetooth waterproof speakers, and they LOVE them! They have had them over a year now and they are still going strong.
Who would have thought in our crazy digital age, that something like this Fujifilm Instant Camerawould be such a wanted item? It is basically just like the old poloroid cameras, but new age, of course. I get a kick out of how fascinated kids are with these cameras. As IF it is really a new concept, right?
For the avid outdoorsy teen, these Hammocks are perfect. My son seems to have a fascination with them. He has been begging since this summer to get one. He loves the outdoors and wants nothing more than to sleep outside in a hammock. I think he is crazy 🙂
I think these nifty little color changing light bulbs would pair well with the dancing water fountains. Illuminate the room a pretty color and then turn on some fun music for the dancing fountains. Party!
Angelus Acrylic Leather Paint Starter Kit Fixing up old shoes and painting them with crazy designs seems to be a big trend right now too. My son has lots of paints and different things that he has used to design and fix up his old shoes with trial/error. He seems to really love it.
We also always do a gift on Christmas Eve that usually consists of new PJ’s, slippers and some sort of fun hot chocolate.
There were SO many more gifts that I wanted to list, but ran out of time! Do you know of a super popular item that should be on every teens list this year? Give me some insider info before I head out for my last minute shopping frenzy!
