No matter what the day or what time it is, you can probably bet that we have something going on. We are crazy busy which doesn’t lead to a lot of couch snuggling TV time for any of us. Even still, we try and always pick at least one evening a month that we are all home together, phones down, snuggle and movie time. – yes even the teenagers still snuggle now and then.
We usually let the teens pick out a movie and I was thrilled when they decided that the movie I was screening for a review before it hits theaters, High Strung, was the one that they wanted to watch! I had given them a sneak peek at the trailer a couple of weeks ago and they were both ALMOST as excited as I was to finally get to watch it.
I am a sucker for anything music and dance, so I had been highly anticipating this and it did not disappoint. It is excellently choreographed and is full of non-stop dancing. The soundtrack alone is worth having on all day. The lead actor, playing Johnnie Blackwell, and lead actress, playing Ruby Adams, execute their roles flawlessly. There is just something magical about combining a dramatic plot line (romance! rivalry! revenge!) with a killer dance number.
Written by American actor, singer, and producer Michael Damian (and co-directed by his wife and former dancer Janeen Damian), this is simply a movie that you do not want to miss. Perfect for date night with your better half, date night with the kids, girls night out – whatever the case may be, plan to see it in theaters April 8th!
About High Strung:
In a city where only the best succeed, two radically talented people from opposite sides of the tracks need to find harmony to achieve their dreams.
RUBY ADAMS is a dancer from the Midwest on scholarship, living her first day in New York City. JOHNNIE BLACKWELL is a British musician, playing for money in the subway tunnels. Ruby’s world is classical and disciplined; Johnnie’s is improvisational and street smart. When a hip-hop battle gone wrong throws these two artists together, they immediately clash but can’t deny it when sparks begin to fly. Their lives quickly get entangled in the pitfalls that come with competing in New York City. With the help of a dynamic dance crew called The SwitchSteps, Ruby and Johnnie must find a way to save Ruby’s scholarship and keep Johnnie from being deported.
In an action-packed extravaganza combining cutting edge hip-hop with contemporary and classical dance, the two must navigate their opposing worlds and prepare for a competition where winning or losing will change their lives forever.
